Troop 164 is one of the newest Scouting units in the Antelope Valley
District, formed in October 2008 by a group of “bridging” (graduating) Cub
Scouts who wanted to stay together as they continued in their Scouting
journey.  Generally our members live on the Westside of the Valley, which
includes the communities of Lancaster, Palmdale, and Quartz Hill.

The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth
development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character,
fosters spirituality and patriotism, and develops personal fitness. For over a hundred years,
Scouting programs have helped build the future leaders of our nation by combining educational
activities and lifelong values with fun. We believe, and know from experience, that helping youth
is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.

We make every effort to keep this a “Scout-led” troop, where the boys continually learn leadership,
collaboration, and organizational skills while sharing in fun outdoor activities. Troop 164 rigorously
follows the guidelines and philosophy of BSA with the adults being present to ensure a safe
environment.

Membership in a Boy Scout troop is open to any boy who has
completed the fifth grade and is 11 years old (but not over 18).
In the alternative, he may enroll at age ten if he has earned
the Arrow of Light, the highest award for a Cub Scout.  If your
son is not eligible under these criteria, he is welcome to join a
local Cub Scout den as early as age six.  A listing of local
dens can be found
here.

Our troop is sponsored by the Antelope Valley Church, a non-
denominational congregation on the Westside of Lancaster.
